Southern Hemisphere’s best of equineveterinary education comes to Sydney

Local and international equine experts will be in Sydney to discuss the latest in research and scientific advancements in equine medicine.

Hosted by the Australian Veterinary Association’s (AVA) equine group, the Bain Fallon Memorial Lectures is known as the best week of equine veterinary education in the southern hemisphere and will be held 15-19 July 2018 at the Hyatt Regency, Sydney.

President of the AVA’s equine group, Dr Ben Poole, said the event brings together horse vets from across the country to discuss, learn and uncover new and innovative treatments specifically within equine veterinary medicine.

“This conference is recognised worldwide for its excellent scientific program and the high calibre of speakers it attracts.

“In 2018 we have a very exciting program that covers three key areas in equine veterinary medicine including imaging, surgery and reproduction.

“In addition to our two international experts who will share the latest research in these areas, we have a great line up of local equine veterinarians who’ll discuss the exciting things that are happening here and now around the country within equine medicine and surgery,” Dr Poole said.

Conference highlights include:

  • Dr Karen Wolfsdorf from McGee Fertility Centre in the United States will focus on the management of twins and causes of infertility in the mare.
  • Dr Chris O’Sullivan from Randwick Veterinary Hospital will cover surgical management of bone cysts in young horses and veterinary management of thoroughbred horses.
  • Dr Natasha Werpy, Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine will speak about techniques for improving the diagnosis of musculoskeletal abnormalities and the latest techniques in ultrasound examination.
  • Renowned local and international speaker, Dr Jane Axon will deliver the Pascoe Oration in honour of the late Reg Pascoe who was one of the founders on the AVA’s equine group.

AVA President, Dr Paula Parker will also be attending the event.
